Jacksonville, Florida, July 12, 2022 – L’Arche Jacksonville announced it is the recipient of an award of $10,000.00 from GEICO/BoatU.S. The donation will fund a significant portion of the cost of a much-needed bathroom renovation which will benefit core members and assistants on the L’Arche Jacksonville campus. The additional funds to complete the project will be provided by other identified funding partners.
The bathroom renovation is scheduled to be completed within 2022-2023 in Peace House, one of four residential homes for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities (“core members”) on the L’Arche campus. The renovation will significantly improve the daily life of these residents as well as assistants/staff who assist with daily routines, some of whom also live in Peace House. The renovated, ADA-compliant bathroom will promote aging- in-place and diversity, equity, and inclusion. This project, when complete, will allow the core members and assisting staff to go about daily personal care routines in a repaired and restored safe place.
Founded in 1985, L’Arche Jacksonville is a faith-filled residential community for adults with intellectual disabilities and the caring assistants who choose to live with them as family. The continuing success of this unique concept depends on a dedicated staff, active community volunteers and benefactors, and a close, mutually supportive relationship with 150 L’Arche communities around the world.
